The New Face of Indonesian Cyber Law post 2022

By: Sonny Zulhuda

A new face means a new form, a new scope and a new set of challenges. Since 2022, Indonesia joined the large group of countries and territories that regulate the processing of personal information. The passing of Law no. 27 Year 2022 on Personal Data Protection (Undang-undang No. 27 Tahun 2022 tentang Pelindungan Data Pribadi) outlines a set of rights and obligations on largely two types of the legal objects: Data Controller and Data Processor. Online consumers will have reason to be happier because their rights over transactions and personal data will be protected. It is crucial to understand this law, and more importantly, the implications of the law to the Indonesian people.

I will present this new development at this Conference named ICOLESS: the 7th International Conference on Law, Technology, Spirituality and Society held by the Faculty of Shariah, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim, Malang, East Java, Indonesia. The main theme of the event is: “Reinforcement of Cyber Law: A Solution to Legal Problems in the Digital Era.”

Thank You UIN Malang for such a beautiful opportunity to share and to enjoy the nice city!
