Data Privacy and Security of the Immigration System: Role and Challenges

Immigration has a very important role in maintaining state sovereignty. Through
immigration, it is easy to know the traffic movement of people in the national border area. For this
reason, an immigration system is needed to be supported by the latest infrastructure and
information technology to facilitate data collection and data evaluation actions.

A good immigration system can guarantee data security protection and at the same time
provide the information needed in an urgent immigration-related incident or case. The immigration
cases referred to allegations of criminal acts of terrorism, drug trafficking, and human trafficking.

In this event held by the collaboration between Youngsan University, Universitas Islam Indonesia, and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea and the National Research Foundation of Korea, I will be sharing my views on the issues of data protection policies in Malaysia, vis a vis the immigration system.
