This topic I delivered online in the 5th International Seminar on Islamic Studies organised by Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU) on 15 March 2023. The objective of this presentation is three folds, namely, to discuss the trend, challenges and opportunities of digitalisation and datafication, secondly, to highlight the legal and ethical dynamics and anomalies as a result of digitalisation, and thirdly, to examine the Islamic perspectives on data culture and information society.
It is hoped that the participants can digest the trends on a general basis and grabs some ideas on the opportunities and challenges of digitalisation. We also hope each Muslim can internalise the data culture so as not to depart from Islamic values and ethics when living the digital life.
